Class Experience

In this 5 week course, students will read 6 chapters weekly of "The BFG" by Roald Dahl prior to posting to our Weekly Highlights on Flipgrid! We will also have a Weekly Kahoot going over the chapters assigned for that week. During the 5th week, we will watch (at home) the Disney film, "The BFG" and complete a Compare & Contrast assignment together in our Classroom! (Students will need to be able to upload a picture of their finished assignment).

This is a FLEX schedule class and we do not have any live meetings. Each week students will be provided with an instructional video for the week and set of discussion prompts to be discussed in our FlipGrid classroom. Students are expected to respond to the discussion prompts by submitting a video to FlipGrid (these can be edited and designed to the student's preference! They will also be private and only accessible by students with the code to our class.) Students are also encouraged to comment on others' FlipGrid submissions with open minds and understanding.

*How does this work? What is a flexible schedule class?*
Flexible schedule courses meet asynchronously, meaning that students are not required to log in or "meet" at a certain time or on a certain day each week. This type of course works well for students that prefer to work at their own pace, have busy schedules, or feel uncomfortable in live meetings with others! Students participate in the course by viewing recorded lectures and answering discussion prompts and/or responding to others as they feel comfortable. All levels of participation are welcome!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello there! My name is Ashley Murphy (Ms Ashley). I was a public school teacher for 5 years, and I have been an online teacher for a year and a half, and absolutely love it! I enjoy being able to connect with all of my amazing students and families online, and I am so grateful that Outschool has created such an awesome platform to do just that!

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology Degree, and I'm a Certified Teacher with a few ESL (English as a Second Language) certifications. In the past, I have taught students from ages 8-11 in all subjects in a public school in Texas. I currently teach students from ages 3-15 how to speak English online and I'm LOVING my new Outschool classes! My favorite subjects are Science, Math, and English. I also LOVE reading! It is one of my favorite hobbies.

One of my biggest passions is teaching kids to love learning and instilling a sense of empowerment within them! My goal is to give kiddos the certainty that they can achieve success and spread kindness in the world! I believe the most powerful way of learning is one that sparks creativity and curiosity in the mind of a young learner. I take the time to get to know my students and we build on our relationship throughout our classes ensuring that everyone feels comfortable and important!

Besides working as an online teacher, I am also a health and fitness coach, I have a real estate photography gig, and I run a house-flipping business with my fiancee, Brandon. We have two teenaged daughters, and we LOVE to travel the world! We currently live in Flagstaff, AZ where we go on the most amazing hikes! It is truly beautiful here.

I absolutely love animals, bugs, creepy-crawlies and plants! (Pretty much all living things.) My dog, Freya, is the best ever. I also have a cat named Oliver who you may occasionally see attacking things on the wall behind me. He is a weird one.

In my classes, you will experience engaging content and we will explore new and creative ways to view our world, link content to real-world activities, and communicate in a positive way with one another!

If you are interested in a class that doesn't fit your schedule, please message me with a few possible dates and times and I will do my best to offer a session that will work for both of us.

I cannot wait to meet you and your child and help ignite that spark of creativity and curiosity within them! Let's get learning!

Much love,

Miss Ashley
