Students will: develop critical thinking skills by participating in discussions practice and expand their reading comprehension skills analyze a text analyze theme, plot, setting, motif, character development, and other literary devices make connections to the modern world explain historical connections
I have a Bachelor's degree in History and Education and have been a classroom teacher for seven years. I have taught novel studies as well as run my school's book clubs.
Students will need to read the allotted chapters before the class.
Students will need their own copies of the books.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some of these books contain violence, the death of a parent, racism, the death of a friend, and discrimination. If you are concerned about whether or not a book is appropriate for your student, please pre-read the book ahead of time or contact me with any questions.
