Class Experience

Students will learn the ins and outs of the trial process including the sequence of events in a trial, the roles of various people in the courts, and vocabulary attached to the trial process. Students will have a chance to show their understanding of the content through conducting a Mock Trial based on Goldilocks & the Three Bears.
Homework will be assigned in the form of finding a news article that has information about a recent trial. Students will also have to explain what steps in a trial are discussed in the article. This should take about 20 minutes.
In preparation for the mock trial, students will have to spend time outside of class preparing for their chosen role. This should take about 1 hour.
It is expected that students have read and remember, or will read, the story of Goldilocks & the Three Bears in order to know the evidence, witnesses, and stories behind the characters involved in the mock trial. If your child hasn't read the novel yet, I expect that will take 1-2 weeks before the class begins.
Any supplies needed will be provided by the teacher on the classroom page.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner progress is being assessed every class meeting informally. The teacher will be checking for understanding throughout the course and making sure the students can relate the content learned in real-time for the mock trial.
There will be no letter grade, but if one is needed, I would be happy to accommodate that request.
55 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will need to be familiar with the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears.
