Class Experience

Have you just joined a team and want to know the fundamentals of soccer? In this discussion-based class, students will learn the basics and most important areas of soccer.

Students will learn all aspects of the soccer field or 'pitch' as I say :)

We'll also learn who the referee is and what their job is. As well as formations, positions and how substitutions work.

Students will also get the chance to act as a coach and discuss which changes they would make to their team's formation and any substitutions they'd make to improve the given game situation. Who knows, we might even discover the next Ted Lasso!

As well as this, students will also learn how to respect others' opinions, how to politely express themselves and build confidence along the way in a fun, yet structured social learning environment.

No prior knowledge of soccer is needed.

Class breakdown:
 • Introductions - I'll introduce and tell a soccer fact about myself and then encourage students to do the same.
 • Let's talk soccer - A relaxed discussion about the current events in the world of soccer.
 • The Pitch - The entire field explained
 • The referee - Who is he/she and what is their job?
 • Formations, positions and substitutions - All explained with examples
• You're the coach - Students will be given a game situation with a choice of two different players and will decide which
substitution they would make
•Goodbye my friends - A brief summary of the class and students will get the chance to ask any questions they might have.
Learning Goals
1. The full and detailed explanation of the game of soccer.
2. Understanding the formations, positions and how adjustments made by a coach during a game can affect the outcome.
3. Social skills - Students will learn how to respect other people's opinions and to respectfully express their own.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, my name is Ross Hanson and I am a TEFL certified teacher, as well as a Football Association of Wales qualified coach. My goal in my lessons is to provide a fun and relaxed environment, where students can learn about what they enjoy while gaining important social skills along the way.

I hope to prompt students to think creatively and explore their natural curiosity. I want them to feel that no question is too silly to ask.

In my class, students will learn and understand terminology, tactics and how to analyze a match, while at the same time discussing all things soccer.

I also have over two years of experience teaching English as a foreign language and have found that students learn best when discussing something that they love.

Adding to the aforementioned two years of teaching, I have also coached youth soccer for three years, two years in the USA and one year in the UK.

I have a National Diploma in Sport, a Football Association of Wales C Certificate and a 120-hour TEFL Certificate.

I love sports and if I'm not watching or playing soccer, then you'll find me on a board either on snow or water depending on the season :)

My second love is to travel and I have been to thirty countries so far and counting...

I really enjoy meeting new people and hearing their stories, so feel free to ask me anything.

I look forward to seeing your child in my classroom soon :)

Bye for now, Ross
