The Basics of Slope-Intercept Form from Linear Equations

In this 1 week course with 2 sessions, learn all about the basics of the slope-intercept form. Learn how to determine the slope and y-intercept from an equation, from a table, and from a graph! Practice and demonstrate to the class!

What's included

2 live meetings
1 hrs 50 mins in-class hours
Mastery Evaluation
1 hour per week. I will have students demonstrate what they have learned at the end of each of the two class sessions.
Certificate of Completion
If parents or learners request a certificate of completion, I will send them one after they've attended both class sessions and completed the course.

Class Experience

US Grade 8
In this class, I will teach learners how to calculate the slope of a line (unit rate) based on the changes in x and y from points on the line. I will also cover how to find or determine the slope and y-intercept of a line from a table and from a graph. I will model for students the steps in these processes over 2 lessons in 1 week using Khan Academy and I will demonstrate using a few examples, including real world examples. I will use Quizlet and ask students polls and questions to clarify and check their understanding throughout the classes. By the end of each class, I will have learners demonstrate to the class how to find the slope and y-intercept as a review of what they've learned.
Learning Goals
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to calculate the slope of a line as the unit rate of change based on the change in x and the change in y.
By the end of this lesson, the student will be able to determine the slope of a line using a table.

Unit 1: Graphing Proportional Relationships Using the Slope of a Line
Lesson 1:
Understanding the Unit Rate
My lesson is about understanding the unit rate as how the change in x and the change in y are related to each other and how to find the unit rate (slope) of a line.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I teach math classes for several grade levels, in the grade ranges of 4th to 11th grade, as well as college math. (I include algebra, geometry, trigonometry, etc.-all math subjects within those grades-and college algebra.) I like to use technology to make learning fun.

I have 4 years of experience tutoring and teaching, mostly in math. I've mostly tutored/taught K-12 students, but also college students and adults.

I like to teach students using their learning styles and interests and to find out their background knowledge and what they want or need to work on to help them succeed. I love to make a difference helping students gain confidence, understanding, and mastery of math in a way they haven't achieved before, ultimately leading them to achieve both their learning and career (short-term and long-term) goals.
