In this class, learners will be using the spooky writing prompt, 'The basement door slowly creaked open...' to begin their creative writing stories. In this class students will learn about and practice writing a creative story. We will go over the five story elements; characters, setting, plot, conflict, and resolution. Students will also practice revising their stories by looking for basic words that can be improved to add more detail and context to their stories. (For example, changing the word 'cool' to 'spectacular'.) Students will learn the basics of writing a story and there is so much room for personalization in this class that students will stay engaged the entire time!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello learners and families! My name is Ms. Julie. I am a 4th grade teacher at a small town elementary school in rural Illinois! I absolutely LOVE my job. I have so much passion for teaching that sometimes it feels like a hobby, not a career!
In addition to teaching 4th graders during the school year, I also teach online ESL courses to students in China. I wake up in the early hours of the morning and get to spend my mornings "in" China, teaching English to the sweetest students a teacher could ask for.
Aside from teaching, I would consider crafting my favorite hobby! I am a very creative person. My creative personality allows me to create classes that are not only interesting, they're ENGAGING! As an elementary school teacher I understand that there are all different types of learners, however, I do believe that all kids learn best when there is excitement and curiosity built into a lesson!
As a teacher with Outschool, I hope to take my diverse experience in the field of education and connect with families through engaging lessons, laughter, and excitement.
