What is Gimkit?
Prepare yourself for an action packed class full of The Bad Guys trivia questions on the wildly popular online educational video game, Gimkit. Gimkit is a fan favorite among both students and teachers alike due to this game's unique ability to test student knowledge in a fun way, while allowing students to play video games with their peers and teacher.

What will my learner be doing?
In this class we will be testing everyone's knowledge of all 15 books in The Bad Guys series by Aaron Blabey through a variety of multiple choice questions. Each class session is held on a secure server and students do not need to make any accounts to be able to play Gimkit. When students log in to class they will be instructed to go to the Gimkit website (gimkit.com/join) and they will be given a unique code to enter the game. Once all students have entered the game, the teacher will start the game and the students and teacher will each play independently but will be able to chat and interact in live time with each other in the game during the entire class.

What does my learner need to know before coming to class?
Students need to have read most of The Bad Guys books before coming to class. The trivia questions in this game should be easy enough for your learner to answer even if it has been a while since they've read some of the books. Most of the questions are questions about characters and major Bad Guys events that most Bad Guys fans would know the answer to.

What does the game look like?
Gimkit allows students and the teacher to play in a wide variety of different modes. Some fan favorites are: Fishtopia, Tag Domination, Capture the Flag, and Floor is Lava. The mode will either be determined by the teacher or the teacher may allow students to vote on which mode they would like to play in for that class session. Here is a brief description of what some of the most popular modes look like:

-Fishtopia: Students answer questions to earn points so that they can go fishing in the lake. When students catch fish they can sell them and use their money to take a boat to other islands or to buy better fishing gear. The winning players are revealed a the end of each game.
-Tag Domination: Students are randomly assigned to 2 different teams and they answer questions to "get energy" to be able to run around the game and tag players from the other team. The winning team is revealed at the end of each game.
-Capture the Flag: Students are randomly assigned 2 teams and they answer questions to "get energy" to run and capture the other team's flag from their base. Players try to avoid being tagged and try to see how many times they can capture the other team's flag.
-Floor is Lava: Students work together to answer questions and build structures to try to keep the floor of their building above the surface of the lava. The teacher can raise the lava level at any time to create more of a challenge for the class. Students see how long they can collectively survive the lava.

Hello Outschool families, and welcome to Teaching Done Different by Ashley Chambers!

A Message From the Founder:
As a current 3rd grade public school teacher of 5 years and a current Outschool teacher, I know that students simply learn different today than they did only a few years ago. This knowledge has required me to find creative and fun ways to provide Common Core curriculum to students in a different and refreshing ways that fits how kids learn today. When designing classes for Teaching Done Different it is always my aim to help students learn rigorous material in such a fun way that they don't even realize they are learning.
