Introduction to The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novel series. We'll be reading the second book in the graphic novel series, "The Truth About Stacey". Readers will need to read the entire book before this one-time class. Readers will briefly learn about the history of The Baby-Sitters Club books, TV shows, and movies. We'll be discussing the book in detail, sharing our thoughts and opinions, and then playing a fun trivia game to see what we can remember. Optional: There is a new BSC series on Netflix. If readers would like, they can also watch the Netflix series so we can work it into our discussion. We'd compare the book to the new series.
Learning Goals
Book Discussions and Book Clubs can deepen a child's appreciation and understanding of a book. By discussing the book with their peers, it extends their thinking as they process and interpret the different perspecitives and opinions of the other readers. It also expands their ability to express their own ideas. A Book Discussion encourages critical thinking and helps with reading comprehension. It's a great space for kids to talk, ask questions, and interact with other kids around their age. We'll use trivia games as a fun, educational tool to "test" their knowledge of the book. (It's all in fun.) The main goal is to have fun reading and discussing the book.

Parental Guidance
This series of books is known for covering some heavy topics for tweens, such as divorce, losing a parent, lack of confidence, money issues, health conditions, crushes, and everyday issues that tweens face. The stories are told with humor and a gentle understanding of what tweens go through at this age. The books center around strong friendships and family bonds.
