Are you a Kristy, a Claudia, a Stacey or a Mary Anne? In this ongoing class we will discuss The Baby-Sitters Club graphic novels, starting with #1: Kristy's Great Idea. Students should read the entire book before each class. Learners will talk about what they like and dislike about the setting, plot, themes and characters. I lead the discussion but this class is very interactive. Conversations are fun and relaxed, with students often related the characters and situations to things in their own lives. This is an ongoing class so learners can join at any time, attending prior classes is not necessary.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My Name is Sandra and I love to read. You will never find me without a book in my hand. My focus as an educator is to foster a love of reading. There are so many fun, interesting and meaningful books available for children. In my classes we talk about books in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. I encourage students to share their own thoughts and ideas whenever possible. I believe relating stories to our own experiences is the best way to truly get the most out of what we read. I offer book clubs for students of all ages.
My other passion is animals. I love learning cool and unusual facts and sharing them with others. Animals are all around us. Some are adorable, some can be disgusting, but no matter what they are an important part of our world.
I am a stay-at-home mom to two girls, aged 10 and 8. We read and make up stories together every day. For the past two years I have taught English online to students in China. Before that I worked for seven years in the insurance industry. I have a bachelors degree in Psychology. My psychology background helps me to understand what motivates people and how to see things from other perspectives.
I love being creative at home and getting involved with my community. I volunteer at a local food bank, am a Girl Guide leader and am the chair of my school PTA. At home, when I'm not reading, I cook (both vegetarian and meat dishes), bake, can, and garden. I especially love baking fresh bread. I've even tried cheesemaking! I love traveling and exploring, both locally and around the world.
I'm excited to get to know your child and share my favourite animals and books with them!
