Class Experience

US Grade 5 - 8
Every writer can learn from another writer.
Every writer needs to be challenged to be able to develop their writing.

In this flex class, the students share a piece of writing every week and receive feedback from the teacher and the other students.

The students in this class have two responsibilities:

1. Write according to the theme and instructions of the week and post their piece in the classroom.

2. To help their fellow writers by reading their stories and giving constructive feedback

Week 1: Fantasy short story about an elf or fairy who makes a human friend

Week 2: A pretend news article about a UFO sighting

Week 3: A ghost story taking place in a lighthouse

Week 4: A description of a magical potion and how to make it

Week 5: An animal fiction story about a young animal who gets lost

Week 6: Historical fiction about a child joining their mother in a suffragette march in the early 1900s (research needed)

Week 7: Realistic fiction about someone who lost their job

Week 8: Pretend interview with someone who was chased by a monster

Week 9: A dystopian story taking place in a world that has been ravaged by war

Week 10: A funny/comical story about a mistake

Every week there will be a short video and document with instructions and questions posted in the classroom to help the student with their writing.

There will also be a document with guidelines on how to give good feedback.

The teacher feedback won’t focus on grammar or spelling, but the story needs to be easy to read. I will instead focus on characters, descriptions, storylines, and the plot.

Teacher expertise and credentials
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in personal experience. Growing up with dysgraphia, I encountered teachers who left me feeling uncomfortable, insecure, and inadequate. Those experiences shaped my commitment to creating an environment where every student feels welcome, confident, and supported. My goal is to build students up, ensuring they leave my classes with both knowledge and self-assurance.

As a teacher, I bring a wide array of subjects to life in my classes, ranging from creative writing and Swedish (my native language) to world religions, the Holocaust, and novel studies with a focus on folklore. Each subject reflects my passions and areas of expertise, offering students a rich and dynamic learning experience.

With a master’s degree in education and a double major in social and political science and world religions, my professional background equips me to guide students through diverse and complex topics. Having taught across various age groups in Sweden and now the USA, I also incorporate the principles of student democracy, encouraging students to take an active role in shaping their own learning journey.

On a personal note, I’ve always had a vivid imagination—perhaps a result of my Nordic upbringing. As a child in Sweden, I was fascinated yet terrified by the stories of fairies that pervade our folklore. Now, as an immigrant in the USA, I weave that sense of wonder into my own creative works, which have earned me awards for poetry and short stories.
