Description

Class Experience

Throughout their weekly learning, learners will gain strength in:
-thoroughly explaining the main idea of a narrative with details and sequence
-using compelling vocabulary, variety, and figurative language
Through my experience in literacy instruction, children are often creative in their artistry, yet struggle to connect this to their writing. I have discovered that through making these connections, learners are more apt to have confidence in their writing, creativity in their pencils, and support for their peers when this connection between art and writing is made.
Learners will complete their writing projects between the Monday release of a new lesson and use the Outschool classroom and Flipgrid to present, share, and provide feedback amongst one another.
Week 1:
-construction paper, pencils/pens/markers, ruler

Week 2:
-10 found-art objects (litter or recyclables-washed), construction paper, tape/glue/stapler, pencils, and colored markers.

Week 3:
-newsprint/construction paper, colored markers/crayons, computer/printer access, glue/tape

Week 4:
-construction paper, watercolors, paintbrush(es), 1-4 objects to form a still-life

Week 5:
-construction paper, crayons, black tempera paint, stylus or sharp pencil point
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learner progress is determined in an informal manner, however a rubric is available for those families who need or want this tool to use as documentation.
