The Art of Wizarding: Potions Class
In this single class, students will actively participate in experimenting with four potions and learning the science behind the magical potions.

Potions is a subject taught at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, Durmstrang and Beaxubatons. In this class, students will learn the correct way to brew potions using muggle ingredients by following specific recipes and using various magical ingredients to create their potions. The potions are: Dancing Unicorn Milk, A Laughing Potion or Exploding Filibusters, Fleeing Spiders, and Magic Mud. Students will also learn how to make a frozen Butterbeer treat and create floating ghosts. During the hands on investigations, students will learn the science behind the potions. We will focus on chemical change/reactions, states of matter, and surface tension. If there is time at the end of the potions class, the students can actively participate in a game of Would You Rather- Harry Potter version. **Parent involvement may be needed depending on the child. Conducting the class in the kitchen or outside will be best.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how to follow directions. Students will learn the basics of chemical change/reactions, states of matter, and surface tension.

Supply List
A Potions Handbook will be provided. Materials needed: *Bowl, plate, and cup, measuring spoon/cups Dancing Unicorn Milk- Milk (2-3 cups), Dish Soap (cap size), Food Coloring (any colors), Q-tip Laughing Potion or Exploding Filibusters- Vinegar (1 cup), Baking Soda (1/2 cup), Dish Soap (green), Glitter (optional), Food Coloring (optional). Magic Mud- Corn Starch, water Fleeing Spiders- pepper, water, dish soap (green). (Optional) Butterbeer- vanilla ice cream, butterscotch syrup, cream soda. (Optional) Floating Ghosts- Twinings Tea Bags, lighter, markers
