Learning and memorizing mathematics skills from textbooks is important, but being able to demonstrate those skills to create something shows that the students concretely understand the idea. In this ongoing class, I will introduce a new art project every week that reinforces (and teaches) math concepts. The math concepts will be generalized and based upon the students level and needs. I will try to tune them to the age and abilities of the students, with the knowledge that many of these...
My goal is that the student will learn new and reinforce previously learned math skills. At the same time, they will learn a new appreciation for art.
I am a certified art teacher in the state of Pennsylvania and taught for many years. I earned many credits towards my Master’s Degree in Elementary Education. I was the coach / parent helper of several FIRST robotics teams (STEM) for 8 years. I also homeschooled my son for 12 years.
Some projects may need to be completed outside of class.
Will vary week by week, but basic supplies for students who plan to attend most meetings will be: - Pencil - Card stock or heavy paper - Watercolors (cakes or tubes) - Paintbrush - Compass (math) - Graph paper - Colored Pencils - Ruler - Scissors - Acrylic or Tempera Paint - Washi tape / masking tape - Markers I will post a list every week of the supplies need for class for the week.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Some items may need to be printed prior to class. Some parental help may be needed for younger students for some lessons, but I will limit this as much as possible.
