“My friend who’s never used Outschool was visiting and overheard my son in this class. She was moved to tears listening to how lovingly Zee interacted with my son during the class. Her energy is amazing and the classes are well worth the smile and confidence you’ll walk away with.” - - Outschool parent

"Excellent teacher to help children develop their conversation and communication skills. Highly recommended." - - Outschool parent

"My son didn't like online classes. But today's class surprised him. He said her class was so fun." - - Outschool parent

“Change your profile to Most Beloved Teacher of 2020 and 2021 Ms. Zee because you earned that title. My daughter felt so empowered that she had a class all to herself to just talk about her interests and what makes her unique. English is her first language but she tends to shut down when called on in class, this was not the case with Ms. Zee.” - - Outschool parent

“My son found it really exciting and engaging. His words, “I did not realize I was in a lesson
The teacher was friendly and the conversation was great, it’s one the best lessons I ever attended.” - - Outschool parent

(recommended): Printable Book (optional): A toy nearby- Children learn through play, and many children learn and concentrate better when their hands are moving! Feel free to have a toy nearby in case your child wishes to engage with the toy- the teacher may ask them questions about it and it will add to the experience of the class if they choose to engage with it :-) (optional) you can bring anything you'd like to show me- your favorite book, toy, a picture you drew or a photo of you, or anything you made that you'd love to show me. Or you don't have to bring anything at all. The only thing you really need for this class is YOU! :-)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Written feedback will be provided after class along with a video to the student. May your skills and progress stay with you and continue to get stronger over time!
25 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
**NOTE: This class has the best results when children take it alone in an isolated room, with the door closed or slightly open, whatever your child feels comfortable with.*

Since it is a one-on-one class, the interaction by the teacher is very personal and deliberate, and meant to create a certain experience for your child.

If a parent or family member remains present in the class, the child may attribute his learning and competency to the parent. The goal of the class is for your child to walk away with 100% of the confidence that is possible for them to achieve in the class. For this reason, please allow them to learn independently so they can receive the class's full potential and effect.

Parents are welcome to meet either at the beginning or end of class, and are most often surprised when they watch the video recording later! There is a video recording available of each class on Outschool after the class has ended.

If your child hesitates, it may help them before the class begins to show them affection and let them know that that you will be right outside waiting for them, and that you will most certainly see them after the class is over.

Thank you so much. I hope together we can help your child know that they are capable of anything and everything.

[Speaking & Teaching Pace]: Match Their Potential, Challenge them Appropriately

Read to learn about a mistake I made when I started teaching:

After teaching thousands of students in China and across the world, I realized that children don't actually need us to speak slowly in everyday speech. They just need frequent and more exposure because that is how the brain learns language. So here's a tip to help your child if they are struggling to speak English or any language: don't slow down the words necessarily (if you are showing them pronunciation, that is different). Increase the frequency that they hear the language. They learn more from frequent experiences than from teaching them to say something slowly or even having them repeat it. Anything they hear, from the simplest words "How are you?" to more complex words like "articulate"- the more, frequently they hear a word or expression, the sooner they derive the meaning from the context. It's like that with everything- our brain gathers data from the all the times something was said. However, if we just say the words, "How are you?" very slowly, they may not be able to derive the meaning, and they definitely are not able to see how it is used in different contexts in conversation, because of the stressed importance placed on just the words themselves. When children are challenged appropriately, we are able to help them achieve their potential, and it truly blows us away.

[Letter to Parents]

Dear Parents,

We all know how important speaking is- it's the thing we do the MOST with each other.

We want our children to speak well so they work well with others, share their ideas, enjoy deeper relationships, and have more opportunities in life.

In my personal journey and professional journey including 8,000 conversation classes worldwide, I have found that the greatest obstacle to speaking isn't even language skills. It's a lack of confidence!

That's right- it is not skill as much as confidence that inhibits someone from speaking.

Think about it-
If the goal of communicating is just to be understood, then we don't need perfect language skills. We need CONFIDENCE.

When we have confidence, we speak even if imperfectly. And as we speak, our speaking refines itself naturally.

But if we never speak, we don't even give ourselves the opportunity to get better.

This class models both excellent communication skills AND confidence, elevating your learner's self-esteem while they learn and practice the art of conversation.

It is my hope, that each child will have the communication and confidence skills to have the life of their potential.

All My Love,
Teacher Zee - a teacher who loves Me
