* It is suggested that you take my Fallacy Detective 4-part class before this one, BUT IT IS NOT REQUIRED Middle and high school students will argue (and sometimes quarrel), but they won’t argue well without good training. Students who join the club will know how to reason with clarity, relevance, and purpose . . . and have fun along the way! Over the weeks, we will cover 28 logical fallacies (plus other argumentation topics), which will provide an essential lifetime framework for filtering good and bad reasoning as well as writing and speaking effectively. This mastery of informal logic is a foundational subject by which other subjects are evaluated, assessed, and learned. The Art of Argument Club is a part of a Classical Education and will feature clear explanations and illustrations, along with dialogues, worksheets, and open discussion questions, all of which combine to make this club easy to follow along and very engaging. Each will be a stand alone lesson which does not require any prerequisite knowledge. While some fallacies are covered in my Fallacy Detective class, all of the fallacies will be examined in more depth. The class will rotate around four themes and then cycle back around to the same theme, but with new content. We will cover each topic in depth and work with many examples Theme 1: General Argumentation (Logical reasoning, good arguments, critical thinking, and much more) Theme 2: Relevance Fallacies Theme 3: Presumption Fallacies Theme 4: Clarity Fallacies (We may cover additional relevance fallacies, since there are far more than clarity fallacies)

Teacher expertise and credentials
Florida Teaching Certificate in Social Studies/History
I have always been very curious and creative and I love to inspire it in kids (both my own and others) as well. I like to teach through projects, which give students a choice on the way they learn and show their understanding. I also love to teach through games and like to combine game elements in my classes.
I believe history, studied in context, to be extremely important. In fact, it's one of our best teachers. The other "subject" I believe to be of high importance is Logic. Unfortunately, logic has long been left off most curriculums. Knowing how to examine events and history through logical thinking and analysis gives us a deep, true understanding of our world.
I'm a big believer in every parent having all the need to school their children all the way through high school. So, if you are ever in doubt, let me encourage you.
My educational consulting company, It's A Potsick Education, exists to build up curious, creative learners. I do custom content/lesson design, private, online events, consulting, and more. Message me for anything you need.
I was a classroom teacher in the public schools for over 15 years and, for the past 14 years, have been helping my wife homeschool as well. I currently hold state certifications in Florida (certificate # 960883) in the areas of Middle Grades Social Science and Language Arts and Elementary Education. I have extensive classroom experience with all Elementary and Middle Grades subject content and have done private tutoring for many years in Math, Civics, Science, and Language Arts.
