Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 11
Beginner Level
In this 6-week business course, I will teach students key business concepts aligned with high school business education standards to prepare learners for college-level business courses.

I will post 2 to 4 videos and readings each week. The course material I share will focus on business fundamentals, organizational structure, marketing, finance, management, and ethics.

A typical lecture will include definitions and examples such as:

An entrepreneur is a person who starts and manages a business venture.
Entrepreneurs assume financial risk in exchange for the potential reward of earning a
profit. They're typically thought of as creative and innovative people.

In a sole proprietorship, there is one owner who assumes full responsibility for the
business operations. The owner has unlimited personal liability for the business's
debts and legal obligations. This means that personal assets, such as personal savings
or property, may be used to satisfy business debts. Profits and losses from the
business are reported on the owner's individual income tax return. The business itself
does not pay separate income taxes.

Are sole proprietors entrepreneurs? Are all entrepreneurs sole proprietors? Does it
    matter? Should we care?

To better understand, let's consider Charlie Wags who owns Walking Wags Dog
    Walking Service...

Through interactive content, case studies, and self-assessments, students will develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills relevant to the business world and to continued study in general business, management, and leadership.

The class is structured to be self-paced, so students will not meet with one another or with me live, but my presence will be known through my detailed recorded lessons that invite asynchronous interaction and engagement. As students complete assignments -- whether written responses to formative or summative assessments, games, or puzzles -- I will give clear, specific, and actionable feedback. I will also engage with learners via the course announcements. I encourage students to share thoughts, ask questions, and brainstorm ideas asynchronously.
