US Grade 4 - 7
The goal of the class to encourage young children to 1) learn how to express and to communicate their thoughts/ideas/stories on paper and, 2) develop the habit/practice of writing as a necessary skill for the real world. Therefore, in this class, we will spend our time in free form writing as well as publishing our work in class. We will write in different genres. The genre will be provided at the beginning of class with a brief explanation and examples of writing style. The students will then write on the topic of their choosing. As they write, I will check in with each student to provide guidance and feedback. The student can complete the writing at any time after class. When they are done writing, they can publish their work in the classroom (optional). Publishing our work in a small group of fellow-students can provide encouragement and foster a sense of community for the children. Due to the interactive nature of the class, all students need to have their camera on during class. All my classes are inclusive to all students and are free of judgement. Tentative genres to be covered: Jan 11, 2022: Narrative style Jan 18, 2022: Persuasive style Jan 25, 2022: Descriptive style Feb 3, 2022: Expository style

Teacher expertise and credentials
Thank you for visiting my profile. I am a neuroscientist and educator. I enjoy teaching children about science - in particular, how science connects the world around us in ways we don't often think about. I try to encourage children to get excited about learning new concepts and to apply them in different situations. I teach classes on neuroscience, animal cognition, public health, and biology. I also enjoy hosting classes on Star Wars, and special topics of interest, mostly as requested by my own students!
I do animal research in the fields of neuroscience and psychiatry. I have 3 Master degrees - Clinical Psychology, Biopsychology, and Neuroscience. I completed my Masters (MS) and doctorate (Ph.D.) in Neuropharmacology from Texas Christian University and University of North Texas Health Science Center (UNTHSC). I then did two postdoctoral fellowships in Neuropsychopharmacology at Harvard Medical School. I was a university professor before joining a global pharmaceutical company.
My teaching philosophy is simple - I try to encourage children to be independent thinkers and to find connections in life about them. This will help them stay excited about learning and be life-long learners.
