Class Experience
The amygdala is responsible for regulating emotions. It has a direct link right to the limbic system and helps to activate a 'flight, fight or freeze response when the body is faced with something it considers a threat! As a result, it directs the body to become ready for a possible threat and responds accordingly, through release of hormones and chemicals that trigger certain reactions such as an adrenaline rush, bursts of energy, faster breathing rate, elevated heart rate and an increased...
Students will be able to learn the role of the amygdala in anger, anxiety and emotional regulation.
I am offering this class in response to a request. I already offer an anger management class, and this class allows me to elaborate on the concepts of the emotional brain, the amygdala hijack and offer some strategies for students experiencing anxiety. Knowing that these emotions have triggers and biological causes often help students to know how to deal with them more effectively.
Each week, students will receive a reading, comprehension and extension practice activity.
Teacher will supply a weekly Powerpoint/notes for students.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Learner progress is evaluated through participation and completion of assignments.
