Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 4
Americans see the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance almost everyday but what do they mean?

We'll spend the first part of class discussing the U.S. flag and it's symbolism, going through a brief history of it, and covering some basic etiquette rules when handling it. During the second part of the session we will breakdown the Pledge of Allegiance and discuss each part's meaning.

We will say the Pledge as we break it down but won't spend time specifically learning it. We will define any unknown words in the Pledge.

Learning Goals

At the end of the session, students should know why the different parts were included on the flag, basic etiquette rules when handling it, and the meaning of the Pledge of Allegiance.

Other Details

Parental Guidance
We will cover the 'under God' portion of the Pledge by explaining the historical reason it's in it.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
