Americans see the flag and say the Pledge of Allegiance almost everyday but what do they mean? We'll spend the first part of class discussing the U.S. flag and it's symbolism, going through a brief history of it, and covering some basic etiquette rules when handling it. During the second part of the session we will breakdown the Pledge of Allegiance and discuss each part's meaning. I learned a number of civics based lessons while earning my BA in Political Science and have been teaching civics to youth between the ages of 5-10 the past six summers at summer day camp.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
We will cover the 'under God' portion of the Pledge by explaining the historical reason it's in it.
