A pest to most, a delight to some! Do you like ants? Do you spend time watching them in their natural habitat? Or perhaps you dream of one day owning your own colony. Maybe you even have your own colony right now! Let’s explore the magical world of ants and ant keeping. We will discuss the different species of ants and some of their amazing characteristics. We will learn and review some key words in ant keeping. We will discuss caring for ants and keeping them thriving. I will show some of my own pictures and perhaps videos of my garden ant colony. It is growing very well with about 50-100 workers! **unfortunate news** all of my colonies died. In the ant world, this does happen. But, there is always new hope! **New additions this summer (2024)! I have found 2 pavement ant queens and 1 garden ant queen. All are doing well, most with brood. No nanitics yet. Bring your favourite pictures of your ants, or ants you have found outside. If you have your own Queen and she can tolerate it, bring her to class! This is a one time class, but learners are welcome to join anytime! We can observe how the colonies develop and grow.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hi fellow learners and caregivers! I am Sarah (you can call me Sarah, Ms Sarah, Teacher). I'm a pretty easygoing, fun teacher. I have been teaching in some form or another since 1999. That is when I graduated University with a degree in Biology. My approach to teaching is much like how I live my life. I am open to all ideas even if they differ from mine. Learning is such an individual experience. I am polite and mindful of others. All learners are welcome in my classroom!
I like to teach online ESL classes, Science and Nature, Preschool circle time classes and more! Interested in something I don't teach, just ask!
An interesting fact about me is that I have a Cabbage Patch Kid Collection. I also really like toys of all kinds. I guess I am a kid at heart. I also love to knit, crochet, and sew. I also love to make my own waldorf type dolls (Polly Dolly) , and cute stuffed animals (Luna Lapins). I am married with 3 children, all of whom speak French, except me! I am starting to take my own lessons! Learning never stops. We have many pets, you can ask me about them!
I look forward to our adventures together.
