Class Experience

In this weekly science class, students will be introduced to 7 major body systems and how each one responds to the fight or flight response. We will cover one major system in each class focusing on the physiology of that system's response to real or perceived emergencies. The systems covered include the Respiratory System, Muscular System, Cardiovascular system, Skeletal System, Endocrine System and the Nervous System.  No previous knowledge is required to take this course.  We will take an interactive and practical approach to understand how the body reacts to stress. We will learn through lecture, slides, games, movement, discussion, note taking, drawing, and hands on projects.  In addition, we will learn ways to prevent stress and the coping skills necessary to reverse the fight or flight response. I believe that knowledge coupled with practical application is the best way for knowledge to "stick." This class will be fun filled, stress free, and educational. I hope each learner will come away from this class with new skills, new friends, and a love for learning.

Learning Goals

This class is designed for learners ages 8-12 and requires no prior knowledge to participate. Below are the systems and practical applications that we will cover throughout this course:
