This is an excellent review class to get you ready to start school. Let's review and strengthen those math skills! Remembering the multitude of steps when solving math problems is a whole lot easier when you have a teacher who can give you the tips and tricks to help you become independent and confident!! This is a low-stress math camp. Students will review skills and be guided in the art of note-taking so they will have a reference for future schoolwork. Students must have paper, pencils, and erasers for each class. I may also send worksheets that will need to be printed and brought to class, I tailor the classes to the student's levels and therefore, we may take longer on some skills than others. This may push the timeline of classes into the following day. It is my goal that students UNDERSTAND a skill rather than speed through each topic. Day 1 FRACTIONS Part1: simplifying, equivalent fractions, converting mixed numbers to improper fractions Part 2: converting improper fractions to mixed numbers, adding fractions Day2: FRACTIONS AND DECIMALS Part 1: subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions. Part 2: understanding decimals, (place value, comparing) Day 3 DECIMALS AND REVIEW Part 1: adding, subtracting, and multiplying decimals Part 2: dividing decimals and review of skills to date Day 4 PERCENTS AND RATIOS Part 1: understanding percents, converting fractions/decimals/percents Part 2: understanding ratios, ratio word problems Day 5 EXPONENTS/ORDER OF OPERATIONS Part 1: understanding exponents, writing exponents in 3 ways Part 2: solving problems using the order of operations I expect students to come prepared to class with worksheets(if given) , paper, and writing tools. I also expect students to be polite to the teacher and other students. Remember, this is a low-stress class and there is no need to get upset-we will do this together!! Students need to enter class on mute and with the camera on AND keep the camera on throughout the class so I can gauge expressions for frustration and check work in progress.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Parents! I am a retired Special Education Teacher with over 30 years of experience teaching grades 3-8 in all subject areas. I am dual certified with a BS/MS in Special and Regular Education in preschool through grade 12. At OutSchool, I offer educational classes in math that are engaging and geared toward the students in the class. I usually work with grade 3-7 students and provide a variety of math classes from private tutoring to group classes and camps on multiple skills, as well as single skill classes such as order of operations, algebra, integers, liquid measurement, and many many more! If necessary, I also modify my classes by scaffolding material for the different levels of students I may have. I am my students' biggest cheerleader and use humor to take the fear out of learning material that may be difficult. Everyone will learn!
I love teaching and want my students to enjoy learning. In addition to teaching, I love gardening and reading, my 2 adult children, Gina and Ryan, and my crazy dog, Luna. She just may show up from time to time in my classroom! I also own my own business working with parents and children on ways to manage stress, whether it's school-related or life-related, and I teach Reiki to adults.
