US Grade Kindergarten - 3
This class will take your child on reading adventure while journeying through the land of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency. These components work together to create strong, rich, and reliable reading foundation. These foundation of reading starts at an early age, when learning are light little sponges. Reading is a life-long important skill, easily mastered while being engaged in a variety of ongoing engaging activities. This class will give your child the educational tools to become successful independent readers, while increasing their self-esteem and overall confidence. When learning how to read, self-esteem and confidence are key indicators of learning rate, retention, and successful. In the Adventures of Reading, I will use several techniques and strategies to engage young learners. Class instruction will include but not limited to short segments of Kahoot to engage learners and assessment learning, Nearpod presentations to introduce and teach specific skills, short video segments from educational websites when necessary. Each class session will include the delivery of reading instruction from myself addressing reading skills ranging from phonemic awareness to reading fluency. At this time, I will use my educational expertise and knowledge of the subject area to guide learners into the world of reading using research-based materials, techniques, and strategies. Students will grow academically and develop a love for reading. Your child’s level of instruction will be determined using a reading placement test that will take place during the first class. I am a National Board Certified Teacher with many years of experience with teaching explicit phonics, reading, and guided reading. I have been teaching phonics and reading for approximately 18 years. While teaching these focus areas, I have participated in many researched based training which have given me a great foundation to effectively instruct students from day to day.
