In this one-time course, students will learn about the chemistry and biology of amino acids and proteins.

Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and proteins are what drive our biochemistry. In this class, I will present via PowerPoint the names, abbreviations, and chemical structures of amino acids. I will explain peptide bonds and protein structure. The learners should already have some background in biology and chemistry. During class, learners will have an opportunity to draw structures and/or use the amino acid abbreviations to make "words" to remember the "ABC's" of amino...
The students will learn the nomenclature and structure of amino acids and proteins.
Students may wish to have paper & pencil for note taking and to draw structures or write abbreviations to make their "words." Materials for molecular modeling (can be a kit or pipe cleaners with beads) may also be used, but it is completely optional.
