Class Experience

The 1st Amendment gives us the right to 'assemble', but what does that really mean?

In this brief, one-time class, students will get a thorough and ever-important lesson on the 1st amendment, what it says, laws related to it, and how to use it properly to protest or demonstrate. Students will learn what protestors legal rights are, as well as the legal rights of law enforcement during a protest. Students will gain a clear understanding of the basic legal rights and responsibilities for everyone under the 1st amendment. Class will be taught from a Constitutional, legal, and factual perspective.

I hold both bachelors and masters degrees in Legal Studies and have spent 20+ years studying and working in the criminal justice and legal fields with attorney's, judges, and victim's rights advocates. I'm also a veteran homeschool mom with experience teaching high level civics topics to middle and high school students. Class will focus on the topic of everyone's legal rights during a protest, march, demonstration, etc. Examples of protests throughout history will be briefly mentioned but the class will not discuss details, nor will the class be involved in controversial debates or discussions. This course is a fact-based presentation of the legal rights of everyone involved in a protest. Multiple sources will be used.
