Description
Class Experience
This isn't just any book club. This is a book club for aspiring authors! This means that as we read a book over the course of a month and meet each week to discuss it, we will not just be discussing it from a reader's perspective but from the writer's perspective as well. Some questions we might ask ourselves are: What makes this book enjoyable to read? Is it fast paced? Are the characters engaging? Why did I not like the ending? How would I have changed the story if this had been my...
Learners will see how they can apply several key elements from a classic book to enhance their own creative writing: character development, writing style, use of metaphors, keeping readers engaged, etc.
I host book clubs for young adults in my free time and Jane Eyre has been one of the best books we've discussed. It has such rich prose and beautiful metaphors throughout. I personally have learned so much about writing from this book and enjoy sharing what I've learned with others. I have hosted several creative writing workshops for young adults for the last two years and I love to inspire anyone bold enough to create their own story to share with others. While I have helped teens one on one with improving their essay writing, my real passion is creative writing as there are no boundaries except that of your imagination.
Learners will be expected to read approximately 75 pages each week but this can be modified if needed. (Listening to the audio book version is also acceptable.)
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
This book is roughly equivalent to a PG rated movie for some suspense. If you have any questions about whether or not the content will be suitable for your learner, don't hesitate to reach out to me.
