In this one-time class, students will learn and discuss the 10 signs of healthy and unhealthy relationships. - These 10 signs have been devised by the One Love Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing evidence-based resources that educate and empower young people. I am a certified facilitator of their curricula and am excited to share this important life skill with you all. - This class will facilitate a conversation between peers, encouraging an open, age-appropriate exploration of relationships and fundamentally how we treat each other. - The class will give young people the language and knowledge to identify for themselves what is safe or unsafe, where their own personal boundaries sit and where to find help if they need it. - This is an inclusive class and we will be referring to relationships of all kinds. Healthy relationships really are a life skill that can be learned, and are indeed key to our well-being!
Learning Goals
For this introductory class, we will focus on 3 of the 7 One Love Foundation Learning Objectives:
- Know the signs and spot the signs of an unhealthy relationship.
- Learn how to engage in conversations about healthy and unhealthy relationships.
- Know where to access resources when in need about unhealthy relationships.

Parental Guidance
We will refer to resources provided by the One Love Foundation, an organization dedicated to improving the relationship health of future generations. The nonprofit organization has educated more than 1.5 million young people through educational workshops, both in-person and online, by teaching them the signs of unhealthy and healthy relationships. One Love was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a 22-year-old college student whose life was tragically cut short when she was killed by her ex-boyfriend. During the trial, her family realized that her death could have been prevented had those in her life recognized the signs of an abusive relationship.
1) For parents of students that attend this class, a comprehensive guide to supporting follow-up conversations about this important topic, developed by the One Love Foundation, will be emailed to you from me via the Outschool platform. For more information, visit www.joinonelove.org.
2) On recommendation by the One Love Foundation, and to further support the students who partake, I will share a list of approved additional resources and helplines, after the class with students. This is a supportive measure to signpost further help and advice, should any students wish to explore the topic independently. Students and parents will also have access to a document, that I have uploaded to the classroom, detailing the evidence-based research and integrated theory that makes One Love Foundation materials both informed and credible.
3) Parents will also be sent a comprehensive guide, developed by the One Love Foundation, to support follow-up conservations.
4) Class Disclaimer: This class is a broad introduction to the 10 signs of a healthy and unhealthy relationship. It will not be diagnostic or therapeutic. Students are reminded not to share private information. Additionally, any child protection or safeguarding concerns that are detected within the class will be referred to the Outschool team, per the Outschool safety policy.
