In this one time class I will read the silly Thanksgiving book "Turkey Trouble" by Wendi Silvano. At the beginning of class we will learn about onomatopoeias and throughout the book students will have the opportunity to see applications of the concept. After the reading, we will review what an onomatopoeia is and discuss examples in and outside of the book to strengthen their understanding. After the reading I will also introduce the process of deductive reasoning and we will practice deductive thought as we recall the various ways that the turkey used clever ways in avoiding being Thanksgiving dinner! Finally, we will finish with a color and cut worksheet that I will provide to you for the class! There is no reading required by the students.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to be introduced to what an onomatopoeia is and be able to name words that fall into this category. They will also learn about deductive reasoning and engage in deductive thought as they become detectives that uncover why the turkey was unable to "hide" among the various farm animals. They will be given the creative freedom to color characters from the story in whatever way they like and practice their scissor skills.

Hi! I love to teach classes that are fun and promote discussion and creativity. In all of my classes I mix critical thinking with out of the box thinking so that the kids learn something brand new! I find the best way to do this is by using books, video games, trivia and other interactive components to keep them engaged and wanting to learn.
My passion for critical thought stems from my degree in Philosophy. The integration of pop culture in my classes is rooted in a lifetime of toy collecting, video game playing, and during my time as a staff writer for an online comic book review site. Over the past five years I have created community-based, pop-up craft classes for parents and children that integrate culture and thought, and I am excited about the opportunity to share these types of activities with my students!
Outside of teaching I enjoy spending time with my husband, son, two cats and puppy! I love online gaming and spending a lot of time crafting.
