Students will then choose their turkey will complete their speeches individually or in teams they can share with the whole class. If you decide to make it a contest, there is even an official pardon certificate to give the winner and increase the fun! Task 1: Analyzing Your Audience Directions: You will choose a president to whom you will appeal for your turkey's life. To write a compelling argument, you will need to determine how to appeal to your audience. Analyze your president's pardon for a turkey from a previous year and record what issues and interests are important to him. Then provide evidence to support your claims. Task 2: Crafting Your Appeal Directions: Represent in your appeal. As you argue for your assigned poultry's life, be sure to make appeals to your target audience's interests. When you have finished your 5-8 sentence speech, circle and label the appeals to your president's values and interests. Remember, your bird is counting on you to save its wishbone!
