Thanksgiving: Magical Gratitude Journals
Did you know that people that keep a gratitude journal are more likely to be happier? During Thanksgiving week, we will meet for 2 days and create individualized, unique gratitude journals. This class is creative, fun, and beneficial.

Description
Class Experience
Extensive research has been done (and is still continuing) on happiness. The number 1 strategy to increase happiness is to write in a gratitude journal every day. Like many people, I have started such a journal and stopped using it within a week. I love writing so I decided that listing my gratitudes just does not work for me. I came up with many ideas for gratitude journals including lists since it does work for some people. I will include printables to glue or staple into the journals. We...
Students will experience writing in a fun way. They will learn different journaling techniques. Students will interact with peers. The goal of the class is to enjoy writing and to create a journal to foster more happiness in each child's life.
Training: Bachelor of Science Degree: Psychology with minors in world religion, philosophy, and sociology Teaching Certification: Preschool-Grade 9, cross-categorical special education Master of Education Lifelong Teaching Certification Employment: 11 years as a 7th and 8th-grade special education teacher 4 years as an elementary special education teacher 2 years as English as a second language teacher online Freelance editor and proofreader-on and off for 20 years My son and I joined Outschool in September of 2019. We also started homeschooling at the same time. I enjoy being a parent and a teacher with Outschool. I receive valuable insight due to my two roles. Extra: -I love learning. I love learning about writing, science, literature, arts, history, and many more topics. -I have done a lot of research, took classes, and in many cases received certification for the following: social skills, happiness, mindfulness, crisis intervention, mental illness, disabilities, self-esteem for elementary and middle schoolers -I have lead many clubs and classes in these areas too. I also have extensive knowledge of the impact of stress, mental illness, chronic illness, and environmental circumstances on a person's learning. -Soccer Player and Coach: eons -I love working with children.
I do not have specific homework for the students. The journals are magical and become part of the student. They may want to work on their journal set-up outside of class. I will also encourage students to write in their journals on a daily basis.
notebook or blank journal, markers, glue, scissors, pencils Optional: Students may want to use magazines to cut out pictures, photographs, stickers, and/or washi tape. This is not necessary for the class.
No assessment. Hopefully, parents will witness progress by observing more smiles on their child's face.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
I will provide printables that will increase the magic of the journals. Every child is different. Parents will decide if their child needs assistance during the class with scissors and glue.
