In this course, students will be writing a creative story using the Thanksgiving theme. They will also be sharing their story with the class by reading or performing it. >Class #1 - Students will get to know me and the other students. We will use dice to roll their story elements such as characters, setting, etc. After they have their story elements, we will work on setting up our stories using an outline. ! Homework due for class 2 will be to finish their outline and start the rough draft. >Class #2 - We will discuss where they are in the writing process. I will be giving each student feedback on their work at this point. ! Homework due for class 3 will be to have their story finished and ready to perform/share. >Class #3 - Students will share their stories. They will have the choice to share their story by reading it or they can perform it. Students will be allowed to be as creative as they would like in their writing, as long as they are appropriate. This class will not be including any Thanksgiving history, it is strictly about creative and entertaining writing with a Thanksgiving lens. Roll-A-Story Options are: Characters are turkey, farmer, goose, scarecrow, child, parent, grandparent, or pig. Settings are in a barn, a corn maze, an apple orchard, a fall festival, someone’s home, or in a forest. Times are during a storm, middle of the night, early in the morning, at Thanksgiving dinner, at sunset, or at harvest. Props are cornucopia, apple, centerpiece, fire, candle, or a tree. Plots are dinner ruined, mystery to solve, someone is lost, something is missing, someone is found, something funny happened.

Bachelor's Degree in Education from WGU
Hello, my name is Shanin Hamilton. I am a mom of 3 kids 29, 27, and 18. I have lived on a small, hobby farm most of my life, since 1980, and we have had almost all of the different farm animals at some point. I homeschooled my oldest two kids from primary school thru high school graduation, greatest experience ever! I was a Girl Scout Leader for almost 20 years and have led hundreds of girls and other Leaders. I am also a trained K-8 teacher and have worked with students from 2 years old to 18 years old in both regular education and special education.
I have a Bachelor of Art in K-8 Interdisciplinary Studies. I have worked with students, ages 2 - 18, in multiple different settings including public schools, private daycares, Girl Scouts, and homeschooling my own children from primary school through high school graduation. I have worked as a Teachers' Aid in a 6-8th grade building in all core classes including 6-8th grade math, Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geography, Civics, Life Science, and ELA. As a Teacher's Aid, my job was to pull small groups of students and reteach the concepts that were taught by the teacher, but in a easier to understand way for the students that struggled with the concepts. I also worked closely with the teachers to develop class curriculum for both the whole class and for struggling learners. I have over 10 years of experience working with children with both special learning and behavioral needs in a public classroom setting.
My style of teaching is being flexible and fun. That means I let the students’ enthusiasm in the subject drive the lessons, because I believe that kids learn best when they enjoy the topic and can be engaged. I use lots of pictures, slides, games, and student driven discussions.
The classes that I offer are the core math, science, and language arts as well as some creative writing, online tools and organization classes.
I hope to see you, or your child, in my classroom soon! Have a marvelous day.
