30 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
This class uses Gimkit, which is a competitive online game where students can compete against each other to show what they know about professional basketball and have a chance to discuss the questions and answers with each other. As the class begins, we will introduce ourselves to one another and share some information about ourselves and our basketball knowledge. Once we learn a bit about each other, students will be given information to join the pre-designed trivia game. The game allows students to work at their own pace and answer multiple choice questions. There are options to play in teams or play individually. About the Game: Students will earn in-game money (not real money) for each correct answer, starting at $1 per question. However, students must think strategically, as they can use their money to buy Power Up's, such as doubling their earning power or increasing the money they're awarded once they enter a streak, as well as many other advantages. There are also Power Ups you can purchase to freeze other players, choose a song to play in the background that other participants will hear, and many more! After the game, we will go over questions that students missed (without calling any individual students out!). What you Need: 1) You can enter the game on the same device you are using for the class, or you can choose to have a second device. 2) Energy and a positive attitude!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool community! My name is Josh and I am a teacher with 7 years of experience in New York City. I have a Masters Degree in Education, with a focus on students with disabilities and I have a wide range of experiences in both special education and general education classrooms. Over the course of my 7 years, I have taught math, history, English, science, and even a little physical education!
I strongly believe that students learn best when the learning is personalized to them. It is my goal to learn about my students on a personal level in order to engage them academically. First and foremost, learners must feel comfortable in order to maximize their potential, and that is always my goal - whether teaching in the classroom or online.
