Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
Beginner Level
Writing doesn't come as easily for every storyteller, but that doesn't mean your story isn't worth telling! Create a collaborative Warriors story with your classmates and leave the writing to me.

Together, learners will create original Warriors characters, develop a setting, and plan a narrative. They will dictate the story to me, and I will record it in writing in a document all learners and their parents/guardians can access. Not only is this a great exercise in teamwork, but it strengthens writers' understanding of plotting, pacing, character development, and more.

Week One: Each learner will create one or more character, including a protagonist who is part of an ensemble cast. We will establish our setting, including clans, enemies, and the physical environment.

Week Two: We begin our narration. Learners will take turns building the story. I will encourage "yes, and" storytelling that keeps the creativity and narrative flowing. I will take dictation so learners can see their creations in print.

Week Three: We continue our story. We jump into the conflicts and all the drama Warriors brings. I will continue taking dictation.

Week Four: We wrap up our story! We will also title it. I will then edit the final draft to share with learners and their families.

Artists in our group are encouraged to create illustrations!

Other Details

Parental Guidance
I often jokingly refer to the Warriors series as "Game of Thrones for children," but it's not entirely off the mark. The Warriors books contain violence, character death, forbidden romances, and other common tropes of fantasy genre literature. Original character stories may also contain sad or violent elements. Works from students may include characters from diverse backgrounds, such as LGBTQ+, disabled, neurodiverse, and other marginalized groups. If your student is particularly sensitive to a specific topic, please let me know in advance and I will strive to create a safe environment for them.

Master's Degree from Kennesaw State University
Along with having a master's degree in Professional Writing, I am an author and editor, an experienced teacher, and a long-time creator and publisher of tabletop roleplaying games. I can guide students through the process of creating dynamic characters and crafting compelling narratives. I know the Warriors characters, clans, and code well, and offer ongoing classes, one-time classes, and camps focused on the world of Warriors. I also regularly assister learners with dictation-based storytelling in my other Warriors classes.
