Join with fellow writers/creators each week to share projects and to discuss a different aspect of storytelling, such as character, setting, point of view, antagonists, world-building, etc.

Class experience

Students will have a safe environment to share their projects and to ask questions. They will gain tools and knowledge to use in their writing. They will also begin to learn how to assess their own work and to give constructive criticism in a positive way.
In all my creative writing classes, the main goal is for students to learn confidence in their own writing and to enjoy writing creatively.
I have been writing stories since I was four. I have an MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults and have taught creative writing at the middle school level. I maintain involvement in the writing community through critique groups, writers’ forums, conferences, etc. I love giving students opportunities to practice, explore, and learn creative writing.
Students will need paper and a writing utensil or a computer for in-class writing exercises.
Students may want drawing utensils and paper for certain topics (word-building, characters) either for use in class or to sketch out ideas after class.
Handouts will be supplied on a class-by-class basis.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
I will guide discussion to make sure it is age appropriate. I will ask students for examples of stories. Land of Stories, Wings of Fire and Percy Jackson are often mentioned.

We may discuss conflict, antagonists, villains, and challenges. At this age range, conflict is usually in the form of disagreements between friends, natural disasters, villages attacked by dragons, etc. However, villains are often mentioned.

For the class on world-building, we may discuss government and economic systems as pertains to the worlds we’re discussing.

Please contact me with any questions or concerns before class.
