Tell Your Story—A Writing Group for Neurodivergent Teens
Class experience
Each of us needs to hear our voice in the world, to know that our experiences matter, yet neurodiverse kids often grow up feeling deeply misunderstood. I did. I'm autistic. And so do nearly every one of the wonderful, amazing autistic kids and teens that I work with. This is an invitation to all neurodiverse teens—Autistic, OCD, ADHD, Tourettes, etc—to begin to write your personal history in ways that matter to you, surrounded by people who get it, without anyone laughing at you or...
I am autistic myself, and am an autism coach, helping autistic kids and their families find and remove the hidden barriers to success and build positive life experiences. I am also a certified teacher with six years of experience teaching middle and high school. I also struggled with anxiety, depression, and sensory processing issues (which went on identified until much later) throughout my teens and for another two decades. Eventually, I became more afraid of spending the rest of my life that way than of facing the things I was afraid of. I delved into the deep inner work of accepting who I am, and writing became a big part of my healing process. Now I'm building a life I love and helping others do the same. Since then, I have published four articles on autism, have won two short story competitions, and am seeking an agent for my children’s books for autistic youth.
Something to write on and write with. A computer or other device is fine, or paper and pen, whatever suits you.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
