In this one-time class, learners will explore what telescopes are and how to use their own. We will learn about the different kinds of telescopes, how they work, and what to view in the night sky. We will investigate questions such as: What are the different parts of a telescope? How do telescopes work? What kinds of telescopes are there? What is light? The second half of the class will be a hands-on. We will explore: Telescope safety Using your tripod Changing eye-pieces Aiming Focusing Learners are invited to bring their own telescopes. The instructor will share several different styles of telescope. If a learner does not have their own telescope or can not bring it with them to class, they are still welcome to participate. Class will be a mix of highly interactive lecture and discussion with lots of time for questions and trouble shooting.
Learning Goals
Students will learn how a telescope works and how to use and care for their own.
