Teen Sewing - Fun Projects to Use Everyday
Students will sew a Cross-Body Purse, Tissue Holder, Sun Glass Case, Drawstring Backpack and Water Bottle Sling.

This teen sewing class is designed for those students confident on the sewing machine with a desire to learn how to make several fun projects for their personal use. They will make a Cross-Body Purse, a tissue holder, a sunglass case, a Drawstring Backpack and a Water Bottle Sling. Additional helpful skills will be taught in each lesson. Detailed instruction, using multiple cameras will give students a birdseye view of my hands at my cutting and pinning table, as well as my sewing machine. Each project follows a detailed step-by-step instruction handout giving the students an opportunity to make the projects over and over again. Plenty of time to sew together and chat too! Week 1 Cross Body Purse - using a teacher supplied pattern, students will pin, cut and begin to construct the bag. Skills-using a pattern, layout and cutting. Week 2 Cross Body Purse continued - students will continue to work on their Purse and give it some finishing touches. Skills- Pressing as you sew and topstitching. Week 3 Tissue Holder - students will make a lined pocket tissue pack holder using two coordinating fabrics. Skills - seam finishes. Week 4 Sun Glass Holder - students will make a quilted and lined sun glass holder. Skills - Learning some quilting techniques. Week 5 Drawstring Backpack - Students will make a lined Drawstring Backpack with or without an outside pocket. Skills - Using coordinating details and creating a casing. Week 6 Drawstring Backpack continued - Finishing touches and threading and attaching the drawstring. Week 7 Water Bottle Sling - Student will make an insulated Water Bottle Sling. Skills - Making boxed bottom and working with linings. Week 8 Water Bottle Sling continued - Finishing touches. Skills - Review of new learned skills.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
Students will be using a sewing machine, an iron, scissors, pins and needles.
Supply List
A detailed supply list for each project and all handouts and patterns will be available to all enrolled students. We will need several yards of fabric (coordinating fabrics or Fat-Quarters will create a coordinated set of projects), a pack or 1-yard piece of iron-on lightweight interfacing, 1/4 yard each of lightweight batting and Insul-Brite batting.
