Not only is reading an essential life skill, but it can be a source of entertainment. In this course, students in high school dive into three engaging novels. Meant for struggling readers, or those who need some additional support (dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, learning disabilities, language disorders), the instructor, a certified Reading Specialist, will guide students with: *Reading comprehension *Plot structure *Characterization *Quote analysis *Themes For each book, students will be given...
Students will improve their reading comprehension skills by answering questions and participating in discussions. Students will learn/review plot elements (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution) by participating in discussions. Students will analyze text evidence for characterization, and theme by participating in a discussion.
The instructor is a certified English teacher (K-12) and Reading Specialist (P-12) with over 10 years of teaching experience.
Homework Offered
Students are expected to read and answer reading comprehension questions for each class following the schedule.2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
