In this four lesson self-paced course, we will learn some fun and delicious recipes for Valentine's Day treats including sugar cookies, cupcakes, chocolates, and brownies. These sweets make perfect desserts and gifts. There will be no live sessions for this course. Your child will be able to complete the sessions on their schedule and then post their final products on the classroom page. All recipes, videos, assignments, and fun extension activities will be available immediately. In each video I will break down the steps for the recipe and demonstrate it from start to finish. As part of the course, I will also extend a challenge to modify the current recipe. Challenges may include adding additional ingredients, changing the form of the item, showing a way to decorate, etc. Then, your child can describe the modification, post a picture, or both. Testing the modification is completely optional. This will be a great way to share ideas and experiment with new flavors and techniques. I also encourage everyone to create their very own cookbook from the recipe sheets I provide. I will provide some ideas but the ultimate design is entirely up to your child. It will be great to keep but the cookbook also makes a great Valentine's Day gift for friends and family. I cannot wait to see what they come up with. If at any time you or your child have questions you can post them on the classroom page and I will promptly provide an answer or suggestion. Your child can participate in the activities as much or as little as they wish but either way, they will learn a great recipe to share with friends and family. I do not believe in making things that only look good so rest assured everyone will also enjoy eating their creations. Happy Baking! Notes: Parental guidance will be necessary during this class due to the age of the learners and the use of the oven and microwave. No prior experience is necessary for this class.
Learning Goals
For beginners to become comfortable with the kitchen, recipes, and baking.
For intermediate to advanced to learn a new favorite recipe as well as to possibly learn new tips and tricks. For all to have fun and learn new things.
Syllabus
4 Lessons

Brownies
Step by step recipe and fun craft activities.
Lesson 2:
Vanilla Cupcakes and Buttercream Frosting
Step by step recipes, decorating ideas, and a fun craft activity.
Lesson 3:
Chocolates
Step by step recipes for Peanut Butter Balls (Buckeyes), Buttercream Chocolates, Chocolate Turtles, Chocolate Dipped Pretzels, Chocolate Dipped Strawberries, and a fun craft activity.
Lesson 4:
Sugar Cookies and Buttercream Frosting
Step by step recipe, demonstration of how to make Sugar Cookies two ways, and how to decorate cookies. Also, a fun craft activity.

Parental Guidance
Parental guidance will be necessary during this class due to the age of the learners and the use of the oven and microwave. Some learners may also need assistance with measuring ingredients.

Ingredients: • All Purpose White Flour • White Granulated Sugar • Confectionary/Powdered/Icing Sugar • Unsweetened Cocoa Powder • Chocolate • Baking Powder • Salt • Salted Butter • Solid Vegetable Shortening (e.g., Crisco) • Eggs • Vanilla Extract • Milk • Buttermilk (Can substitute Milk) • Caramels (Optional) • Pretzels (Optional) • Peanut Butter, Sunflower butter, Almond Butter, or Soy Butter (Optional) • Pecans (Optional) • Strawberries (Optional) • Food Coloring and Sprinkles (Optional) Miscellaneous Needed: • Cookie/Baking Sheet • Muffin/Cupcake Pan • Baking Dish (2 Quart Baking Dish - 8x8 Inch or Similar Size) • Cupcake Liners or Spray/Butter • Silicon Mat or Parchment Paper • Bowls • Measuring Cups and Spoons • Spoon, Spatula, or Mixer • Oven

I have taught both live and prerecorded baking classes on Outschool for over 3 years. During this time I had the pleasure of helping over 900 kids from age 3 to 18 discover how much fun they can have in the kitchen. During the last 2 years I opened a bakery serving my local community. I have received an award for best desserts and sell out most weeks at my local farmers' market and events. I use many of the same recipes I teach in my classes in my bakery.
