In this one-time class, kids will play doctor and learn about doctor's visits
Class experience
Students will learn through medical play and discovery, guided by a certified child life specialist trained in teaching children through medical play. They will learn about different things they might see, hear, and feel during a doctor's visit, they will learn coping skills for doctor's visits, and they will get the chance to express and process emotions they might feel about going to the doctor. Students will learn about different medical equipment, procedures that occur during routine check-ups (such as vitals), and coping skills for doctor's visits. They will also get the chance to process and express emotions about doctor's visits.
As a certified child life specialist, I am trained in supporting children's development, coping, and emotional health through play and education. I have a Master's degree in child studies and have been a certified child life specialist for nearly 4 years. Part of the services I provide include medical play, helping children to learn about medical experiences, learn coping skills, and process emotions through play. I'm excited to be able to provide this in an online format to be able to reach more children :)
Children should have a doctor play kit and a stuffed animal or doll. If they do not have a doctor play kit, a printable kit will be available in the classroom for parents to print and cut out.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This course will cover age-appropriate material related to doctor's visits and well-child checkups. It will also cover health information that children may ask about during medical play. This course will aim to remain unbiased in its presentation, and if there are any topics you would not be comfortable with your child learning or discussing, please contact me prior to enrolling.
