Teaching Mr. Grinch More Manners

Now that Mr. Grinch's heart has grown 3-sizes, he will be around people more often. He needs to learn more manners. He has learned to be kind and not to steal Christmas but what about covering his coughs and sneezes? How about sharing and taking turns? Looking at and listening to someone when they are talking to you? And most definitely using magic words like 'please' and 'thank you!' These manners will definitely help Mr. Grinch. Will you help us teach him? You will be able to make your own Mr. Grinch that you can turn upside down to show his grumpy face and right side up to show his happy face. You will be able to see how having good manners can make us, our parents, our friends, and our teachers happy! Speaking of teachers, we will definitely want to practice our letter of the class! For this class it will be 'M' for Mister, manners, magic, merry, and more. Mr. Grinch also likes singing now and he would love to hear you sing your abc's and find where that letter 'M' is. Mr. Grinch really likes the letter 'M' because it is the first letter in his name! Mr. Grinch thought, "Maybe Christmas doesn't come from a store, Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more!" In this class, we will learn about how good manners can help everyone feel that "little bit more" kind of feeling this Christmas!
Learning Goals
-Identify name and sound of the letter 'M'
-make an upside down happy/frown Mr. Grinch craft
-discuss scenarios when we need to remember to use our manners
-role-play manners including please/thank you, covering your cough/sneeze, keeping hands to yourself, taking turns, sharing, look/listen when someone is talking to you
-encourage students to do the vinegar/baking soda/water bottle/balloon grow Mr. Grinch's heart science experiment after class
-sing the abc song (specifically slowing down the L-M-N-O-P part)
-write your name and the letter 'M'
