Fill-in-the-blank prompts, where the learner is given the beginning or end of the sentence and has to complete it with their own response, are a great way for learners to start writing sentences. Here are just a few examples of fill-in-the-blank prompts:

"Today my day was ___________."
"My favorite game is _________."
"I want to learn more about how____________."
"__________ would be a silly thing for me to do."
"A time I laughed a lot was when_________."

Class Structure and Class Experience Notes:

- In class, after we do quick introductions, I will share onto the screen ten fill-in-the-blank prompts.

- Learners will be asked to think of how they would answer each fill-in-the-blank, and write the full sentence down. So if prompt was "Today my day was _______" and the learner wanted to complete the sentence by saying "great", they would be asked to write down the full sentence "Today my day was great."

- If a learner needs to see what the full sentence looks like on the screen before they start writing it down, I will use the zoom chat feature to write the whole sentence down for them to see as they say it.

- Learners will be encouraged to raise their hands and ask for help with the sentences if needed.

- It is okay if your learner is not able to complete all ten sentences in the time we have (15 minutes). They should focus on trying to complete as many as they can.

- At the end of class, any learner who wishes to may share their sentences out loud for the class.

My teaching style is supportive and formative, and I aim for this class to help learners make better sentences, no matter if this is their first time writing a sentence or they have already started writing many sentences. While this is a one-time class, different fill-in-the-blank prompts will be used every two days. Learners are welcome to re-enroll in the class to gain more fill-in-the-blank practice!
