Homework
1 hour per week. Students may view the class recording to practice the concepts that were covered in each class session. The teacher will also suggest specific areas in the public speaking project to practice as homework between class sessions. The teacher will provide written feedback after every class.Grading
The teacher will provide written feedback after EVERY class session to ensure that the learner has adequate information to know what he/she should practice during the week between class sessions.Class Experience
These are one-on-one tutoring classes to help learners gain public speaking skills. Students will practice: *Speaking slowly, clearly, and with proper diction and pronunciation. *Using appropriate eye contact, pauses, gestures, and voice inflection and volume. *Memorizing prepared speeches or expressive reading passages. *Speaking extemporaneously from an outline. *Speaking extemporaneously about a topic with no outline. Students may provide materials for specific speech competitions, or the teacher can provide materials as needed.
Learning Goals
1. The student will be able to choose a topic or published passage for use in a public speaking opportunity, such as a speech competition.
2. The student will be able to speak slowly, clearly, and with proper diction and pronunciation.
