This Tea Time commemorates the 500th anniversary of the Reformation by focusing on an artist, poet, and musician who were inspired by its impact on religion, politics, and culture. Lucas Cranach was a 16th century painter and printmaker, serving as painter to the Electors of Saxony. Spenser wrote his The Fairie Queene in praise of Elizabeth I. And Bach was a German Lutheran composer, working in the 1700s, who is regarded as one of the greatest composers of all time. We'll explore brief biographical sketches of these men, touch on historical context, and delve into their work.
