Beginner Level
This class focuses on training pets using a target stick. A target stick is a very versatile piece of equipment that can be used for many different behaviors. Each week we will focus on a different trick and show through presentations and videos each step needed to train that specific trick. Each class will include discussion time with the instructor for training questions.
Learning Goals
Students will improve their understanding of positive reinforcement animal training.
Students will implement their knowledge of target training to teach their pet new tricks each week.

Follow
We will review the basics of clicker training with a target stick, then we will work on having our pet follow the target stick while we walk.

Lesson 2:
Over
We will use our target stick to teach our pet how to step or jump over an obstacle. Obstacle examples include a ground pole, small jump, log, or rope.

Under or Through
We will use our target stick to teach our pet how to go under or through an obstacle. Obstacle examples include a tunnel, hula hoop, ribbon arch, or the student's legs.

Parental Guidance
This course requires hands-on practice of skills with a live animal. It is up to the parent or legal guardian's discretion to determine if the pet's disposition is appropriate for the child's use in this course. Any animal can be unpredictable. For example, animals with severe anxiety, aggression, resource guarding, or other potentially dangerous behaviors that may put the child's safety at risk should be avoided. If you have any questions or concerns about your pet's suitability for this course, please contact the Clicker Kids Animal Academy instructors.
Pre-Requisites
Introduction to Clicker Training with Your Pet is a prerequisite for taking Target Training Tricks With Your Pet.

Our teachers have 20+ years of animal experience and a combined 8 years with clicker training a variety of animal species. Kelsey has been teaching youth horse lessons for 6 years. Sara has taught science at the high school level for 8 years with a special interest in animal behavior.
