The Weirdest Things Animals Do-And Why! Part 2
Tarantulas and their Defenses-with live tarantulas!
Class experience
US Grade 3 - 5
We will discuss the body parts of spiders/tarantulas versus an insect and similarities and differences. We will also discuss Old World tarantulas versus New World tarantulas and talk about their defenses: fleeing, urticating hairs etc. Students will get to see a real, live tarantula up close and maybe another if time permits. If time permits we can discuss/see other arachnids or poison and venom depending on where the students take the class.
Identify the body parts of a spider and insect. Recall some defenses of tarantulas.

Sometimes evolution of body parts comes up. I use real tarantulas during the lesson.
