Class experience
This class will be about learning some tap dancing steps and movement to music. We'll start with some exercising moves to music, to warm our muscles and get everyone into a dance fun mood. We will then begin to try some steps , tapping our toes and heels, and getting the feel of tapping our feet! We will then advance to putting our new steps to music and having lots of fun along the way. By the end of class we will have learnt at least three tap dance steps. It is not necessary to have...
Students will learn movements to music and practice identifying different rhythms. They will learn how to do some tap steps and how to put the steps to music.
I trained in ballet, tap and modern jazz in England, UK. I have qualifications in RAD advanced ballet (UK) / ISTD tap and modern (UK) I worked for many years as a professional dancer myself and I have choreographed and taught tap, jazz and ballet to many dancers that continued on to work professionally in theatre shows. I love teaching children and I am looking forward to sharing some of my techniques with my new learners.
Learners should either wear Tap shoes or hard soled shoes. If neither are available, sports shoes are fine. ( Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by accident.)
Your learner dancer needs to be wearing comfortable clothing that they can easily move in. Please have a large enough space for your dancer to move and turn around freely without fear of bumping into something or knocking something over. We will begin without shoes for some warm up exercises. After warm up we will wear our shoes to complete the class. Learners should either wear Tap shoes or hard soled shoes. If neither are available, sports shoes are fine. ( Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by accident.) A tapping board or a wooden board or panel or something similar that doesn't bend when jumped on, is a great substitute for an expensive tapping board. My board that I use in class is from the local hardware store and measures appx. 35 x 45 inches. Please have drinking water on hand too, as the dancers may become thirsty during their activities
