This class will be about learning tap dancing steps and movement to music. We will begin the class by welcoming everyone to the classroom and getting to know each other a little bit. Next, we will do some exercises to music for about three minutes to warm us all up and get into a dance fun mood. I will then begin to demonstrate the first steps and show the learners how to put the steps to counts. We will then advance to putting the counts and steps to music and having lots of fun along...
Students will learn movements to music and practice identifying different rhythms. They will learn how to do some tap steps and how to put the steps to music.
I trained in ballet, tap and modern jazz in England, UK. I have qualifications in RAD advanced ballet (UK) / ISTD tap and modern (UK) I worked for many years as a professional dancer myself and I have choreographed and taught tap, jazz and ballet to many dancers that continued on to work professionally in theatre shows. I love teaching children and I am looking forward to sharing some of my techniques with my new learners.
Learners should either wear Tap shoes or hard soled shoes. If neither are available, sports shoes are fine. ( Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by accident.)
30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Your learner dancer needs to be wearing comfortable clothing that they can easily move in. Please have a large enough space for your dancer to move and turn around freely without fear of bumping into something or knocking something over. We will begin without shoes for some warm up exercises. After warm up we will wear our shoes to complete the class. Learners should either wear Tap shoes or hard soled shoes. If neither are available, sports shoes are fine. ( Please ensure any shoes with laces have the laces tied firmly to avoid stepping on them by accident.) A tapping board made of plywood or something similar ( to stand on and tap) is useful, but not essential. My board that I use in class is from the local hardware store and measures appx. 35 x 45 inches. Please have drinking water on hand too, as the dancers may become thirsty during their activities
