This is a one-time class that features an engaging read aloud titled "Dragon's Fury" written by Michael Gordon about a boy named Ben and his dragon friend. They love to play and do things together and mostly have a great time...until some situtations present themselves that make the dragon angry. Ben teaches his dragon friend some strategies to help calm down some strong emotions so they can get back to having fun! Students will be able to share their own experiences through discussion...
Learning goals for students (Teacher may adjust during lesson to address specific student needs): 1) Students will make connections to their own experiences and develop an awareness around various emotions. 2) Students will recognize why and how they feel in certain situations as well as how that may affect others (peers, siblings, parents). 3) Students will develop new strategies (techniques) to handle such emotions such as anger and frustration appropriately. 4) Students will follow step by step directions given by the teacher to increase listening skills and fine motor skills as they learn how to draw a simple dragon. 5) Students will practice implementing new strategies while role playing with their created dragon drawing.
1-2 plain sheets of paper pencil with eraser crayons or markers
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
