Class experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Students will listen to a well-told story, and learn about the rare and interesting, dark tales.
My degree is in teaching English. I have also taught history for years. I have taught both in a brick and mortar and an online setting. I have a niche interest in bizarre and dark historical stories. I do my best to research them. I am am writer and storyteller. I have over twenty years of experience teaching rhetoric writing, reading, language arts, and critical thinking skills. I am familiar with the material, and have the experience to foster meaningful learning. I have been teaching English, Language Arts, History, ESOL, reading, and writing for twenty years. I have taught all levels of secondary English, Social Studies, and History, both in-person and online. I currently teach longer, more in depth courses on some of the topics that we will cover in this course. I have done a lot of research into these topics, because they interest me, and my students find unusual history fascinating. I have a degree in English Teaching, and I enjoy teaching students how to explore historical events through written material. As an English teacher, I have taught students to read and critically analyze differentiating opinions about fictional works and non-fictional topics and arrive at a substantiated belief. In addition, I have taught in a team taught, multidisciplinary Language Arts/History classes at the secondary school level. I teach a separate course on Roanoke, which would be a great next class.
The content is scary. If I were to rate this class at a green, yellow, red level for the purposes of scariness, this class is red. The stories have root in realistic history. The stories may involve death and disappearances. In the case of Lizzie Borden, I will describe what she was accused up with as little graphic detail as possible. I will be sensitive to the learners in the class, but it is meant to be for learners who are comfortable with scary topics, like disappearances, unknown occurrences, and even murder. I keep my storytelling as light as possible on those topics.
