Welcome! Do you sometimes (or more often) feel your mind racing, extra energy in your body, or even chaos and confusion while thinking? These are common signs of anxiety and effect everyone at some point in their life. Anxiety occurs on a spectrum, with some feeling slight tension internally and others experiencing extreme symptoms that effect their daily life. No matter where you find yourself along this spectrum, there are numerous tools and techniques that, with practice, will alleviate and retrain your brain to process stress in a healthier way. This course will deal with specific DBT tools and learning how to reframe, and reclaim, our thought processes. We will learn breathing patterns for grounding, manipulative tools to use for staying present, identifying our root emotion that is causing our anxiety, and self-compassion for our difficult days. All activities in each class will be rooted in mindfulness techniques to help us focus, and refocus as needed. I provide a safe class environment - with no judgment and only compassion. Working together we will make use of discussion, games, and any handouts that will be useful for students. ***Please note - no trauma work will be offered during this course. If there is an underlying knowledge of trauma that is causing said anxiety, please find a DBT or CBT counselor to work with. This class will only focus on how to reclaim our thoughts and find our voice over the internal confusion.*** No previous knowledge of therapeutic techniques is required, only an open mind and willingness to practice what is learned each week. I will suggest ideas for tangible tools and will also supply a 'cheat sheet' of everything we discuss, so students have something to keep with them at all times between meetings.
Learning Goals
Students will learn specific techniques to produce healthier thinking when under stressful situations. With consistent practice, students will acquire lifelong tools that will help calm, ground and reframe unhealthy thought patterns.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello!
My passion for guiding students has been a lifelong endeavor and one that I continue to enjoy. I focus on the goal of autonomy and place a high emphasis on the quality of the process students work through that eventually leads them to achieve success through personal growth and attunement.
With that philosophy in mind, the classes I offer are fully focused on the student as an individual. The assignments, conversations, and work are all individually detailed to walk students through their journey to knowing themselves better and teach them how to use that information to plan their next steps in the healthiest way possible.
I hold my Bachelor of Education with a focus on early childhood development, a Master of Education with a focus on cognitive development and processing, and am currently pursuing another master's degree in clinical mental health. Over 18 years of teaching in a wide variety of settings has given me many tools and methods for guiding students in their studies.
